The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
