The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Chose the Wrong Popular RPG Show Track
This latest animated series, the most recent animated adventure from the beloved role-playing group, unveiled an exciting opening credits. It showcases the beloved cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues fighting hard and making their mark, while also hinting at several heart-wrenching personal histories for characters including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, Fjord.
Overall, the intro appears amazing. However, I felt that an element was missing in the song choice.
The intro employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional composition created by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. It's a track from the official score of that title, the second release put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great sentimental choice, and I believe that fans of the second campaign will appreciate its inclusion.
But for me, The series' intro doesn't quite capture the excitement and excitement that accompanied the show's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", written by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic in my view when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it only got better when co-founder Sam Riegel wrote words to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.
Including singing from Ashley Johnson, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was memorable and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the follow-up series at that point, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my device. It's a song that excites you before you dive into an episode of adventurous fun.
The show's intro with "the new song" doesn't strike the right notes in my opinion. It's a grand piece of music, but based on my understanding of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.
Naturally, Critical Role has stated that the series will have some changes and variations from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its intro seems to be one of them.
The Mighty Nein will be released on Prime Video from Nov. 19. For those eager until then, or want a head start to learn about the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are accessible on the audio platform and the video site.
